Is it safe for us to travel to Ethiopia, we have a 7 year old child and we are going there for a family wedding and we are a little concerned as to the safety issues.

I would not worry about Addis Abeba' safety, AT ALL.
The worst is pick-pocketing, or perhaps mugging in the night time if you are in the wrong place, and that can happen every where. If you know people, so much better...feel cool about it. HJ

Definitely agree with HJ -- very safe city apart from pickpocketing mainly in the mercato area and on the local city buses. There are cons but seeing as you know people there, you'll have no problem. Addis is a great city; you and your child will be perfectly safe. Have a great trip.
