Palmer Hatcher Pass
Posted: Wed March 24, 2004 12:14 AM UTC
My husband and I will be driving a rental car in June from Valdez to Talkeetna and I'm wondering about the road conditions through Hatcher Pass - I don't think we're supposed to drive on gravel roads. If it's really rough conditions, is it still worth the time to drive up to Hatcher Pass from Palmer, then turn around and retrace our steps to drive to Talkeetna via Wasilla? Thanks -

There are two seasons In Alaska Winter and Construction. June is the Latter. The roads are paved but a heavy Construction project is going on right before Palmer. Most of the Alaskan Car rental Places Understand That there will be areas that are under Construction. Best Policy would be to ask the Local office that you will pick the car up from.
