Kochi Airport Taxi
Posted: Tue March 23, 2004 10:08 PM UTC
Hello all,

Have you any idea how long it will take to get through customs etc at the airport in Cochin?

.. and then how long a taxi journey will take from the airport to Fort Cochin at around 5am. Also how much is this taxi journey likely to cost?

Hi Greg

Cochin is a small airport with only a plane or two at anytime. Are you flying internationally to Cochin? Normally flights come via Delhi, Bangalore, Chenai etc. Anyway you should only need 30-60 minutes to get through the airport. Taxi into town will take about 15-20 minutes and cost you less then $5 dollars.

Can be bloody hot and humid in summer so have fun.

cheers

Hi Stuart,

I am flying via Mumbai to Cochin. Does the customs/immigration at Cochin take a long time?

If you're entering India at Mumbai then you will clear customs and immigration there, not at Cochin. You'll fly into Mumbai's international airport, clear customs, and then transfer to the domestic airport (a different building) for the flight to Cochin. Mumbai immigration can indeed take a long time, depending on how many flights are coming in when you land. I've waited there 45 minutes sometimes. It also usually takes quite a while for the bags to come out.

Cochin's airport is quite a distance from the city. At 5 AM there will not be traffic, but expect the ride to take around 45 minutes anyway. The roads around there are not great.

Sorry, I've no idea what the taxi ride might cost.

If you land in Mumbai from a foreign country, you will have to go through immigration and customs at Mumbai. Mumbai being a very busy airport you can keep safely 45mns -50mnts to come out of the terminal building with your registered baggage.
From Mumbai to Cochin is a domestic flight and so you don't (repeat don't) need to clear through immigration and customas again.

Cochin Airport is a bit far from the city and takes about 45mnts depending on the trafic.Since early morning at 5am is not a peak hour you should be able to reach Fort cochin in about 30-40mnts.

You can take a prepaid taxi from the cochin airport which is the best. No idea as to the present taxi fare from airport to Fort Cochin.

Cochin also being an international airport, you can also arrive at Cochin.

Cochin has now become the international airport. This is one of the best airports in India. One can do the customs and immigration formalities here. This you can do by chooing the flights coming via middle east or taking Air Inia flights through Mumbai.

The other international airports in the state are Trivandrum and Calicut.
