Kiruna aurora in april

Hiya,

I know it's a bit to catch aurora in April in Kiruna. But is it possible? I plan to visit Kiruna in late April, any chance?

Yes it's probably too late as it gets brighter and brighter up north in spring even if the snow stays. The aurora might BE there but you won't see it.

Try asking dave_21 here on VT. He lives in the north and spends time outdoors so he is more updated.

Hi, sorry for my late answer! It might be possible to catch auroras in late april. But that chances are much smaller than in december. People cannot say for sure that aurora has something to do with cold temps and clear nights. It can and will appear in all weather sooner or later. But you have to be far far north of course AND it has to be dark. In late april there are very short nights.
We hade a huge aurora here just 5 days ago, and I don't live that far north as Kriuna. So there is a good chance spotting one in early april at least.

I recommend not going in late april, it's quite expensive to travel there and your chances of spotting one isn't good.
I really recommend going in november, december or january istead.
