hi,
im heading to sri lanka in june
and i wanted to to go across to india as well
i wanted to know the best way to get from sri lanka to india
no one seems to sure if there are ferries or not
where they go to and from
how much they cost
or flying how much dose that cost
where would be the best places to vist in south india

The ferry between Sri Lanka and India is not yet operational and wont be in June either. The best way to get to India is to buy a return ticket from Colombo visit India and get back to Colombo for your flight.

Getting a visa from the Indian High Commission in Colombo is straight forward and will take you one day. There are quite a few flights offering tickets and you can expect to get a deal for about Rs.30,000 including accommodation.

The SL-India ferry is one of those great myths of world travel! It's been 'nearly there' for a few years now and it's such a blatantly obvious route that most people can't believe it doesn't exist! Best and only bet is, like the first answer said, to fly - Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore are all good possibilities. Here's hoping that 2004 will be the year that you can finally sail. Otherwise I might just have to try and swim for it!
