Switzerland Christmas Holidays!
Posted: Mon March 22, 2004 12:13 PM UTC
Hi,
My name is Tanya S. and this december my family and myself will be in Switzerland for the holidays. Each person in the family gets to choose one thing they want to do. Although I am having a difficult time trying to chose what I want to see/do! Does anyone have any suggestions? If you do, I would appreciate it if you could share it with me!!!
Sincerly,
Switzerland

Well, I don't know what you like doing, but on top of our list when we went to Switzerland, was to go see Liechtenstein. It's a tiny little country of its own, and located in a beautiful area.

Who far is it from Bern? I am really up to anything, I love medieval cities that hold a lot of history. I also like museums and the like! Thank you for your advice!!!

If you are staying in Bern you are centrally located to several other great cities in Switzerland. I would suggest to take a day trip on the train from Bern and go to Zurich. While there take the local train up the mountain to Utielberg. Its only about a ten minute ride. There is a great restaurant at the top of a trail here called Uto Klum. It sits overlooking the city of Zurich with a great view. I was there in the summer but can imagine it would be beautiful in the winter. Its a little pricey but worth it for something special.

Hi,
I'd definitely include areas where you haven't been yet - so maybe the East (Graubunden/Grisons), or South? In the east I'd start in Chur, and go to Davos, St. Moritz, and down Engadin Valley, going for some skiing there too maybe... And visit the old towns there, like Zuoz, Guarda, Ardez. Don't forget a trip on the Rhatische Bahn railway!
In the South, Ticino, maybe Lugano with visits to Northern Italy. I heard the Centovalli (a valley, but also a railway line by the way) is great.

Enjoy Switzerland!
P.

Go sledging down one of the death-defying runs!
.... bit scary though.... Load of resorts do evenings where you go up to a restaurant for a fondue then sledge back down to the town.

La Mazott is one of those fondue places just mentioned. It is on a summit just over head from Les Diablarets. There is a ski lift from Les Diablarets that takes you directly to La Mazott. There you can have fondue made from cheese made fresh at the restaruant. And then burn those calories skiing back down.
