| Yangshuo | Is It Possible/Worthwhile to Bicycle from Guilan to Yangshou? Posted: Tue March 16, 2004 02:51 PM UTC
I plan on flying into Guilan and staying in Yangshou area for about 6 days. I want to explore Li River near Yangshou and not take the boat from Guilan (too touristy). I was thinking of maybe getting from Guilan to Yangshou by exploring towns along the way by bike. I would prefer smaller roads to major traveling road and along the Li River if possible. Are the villages along the way interesting? Since I don't have much time I am not sure whether the smaller roads might take too long to get to Yangshou (more than one day) and whether I should spend one full day doing this or not. Any comments/suggestions?
Thanks! |

If you want to bike, it will be more than 40 kms. If you really do not want to take a boat down from Guilin to Yangshuo, you could take a bus, then based in Yangshuo, rent a bike, tour around the surrounding countryside.
Have a good time!

Hi
We took a minibus from Guilin to Yangshou = cheap (had the same idea about the boattrip as you) not much to see on the way (80 km i think) then you could rent a bike in yangshu when you get there to explore the river/neighbourhood. Good luck Niklas

i have done that ride on a bike and it's a fantastic way to see the place.
you can also travel one way by bike and then put the bike on a boat on the way back. i would really recommend that you do it. it's a great way to get away from the mainstream tourist scene.

Great! Thank you! Cld u tell me if you stayed on the main road or went on smaller ones? And if u stayed on the main road do u have to be especially careful of buses, etc. zooming by?
Fyi, I found a wonderful way to convert a bike into a boat! ( http://www.shuttlebikeusa.com/). I imagine its too long and difficult to 'paddle' back to Guilin but your suggestion of putting the bike on a boat is good. Also, if I decide to take a bus back to Guilin cld I put the bike on it?

i'm sure the bus will accept your bike.
mabye you have to pay a little extra charge. i went on small countryside roads, but there weren't really any roads with heavy traffic there. it's also quite flat and easy to bike and the scenery with the rock formations is all around you.

Hello,
Rent a bike, that's wonderful! The small villages are so nice on the way. BTW, you can take a bus to Longsheng to see the Dragon's Backbone Rice Terraces and Zhuang minority group villages.(about 2.5 hrs ride from Yangshou to Longsheng). That is worth seeing! Enjoy yourself! Xi'an
