New Zealand Mobile Phones
Posted: Wed March 10, 2004 11:32 PM UTC
I'm going to take my mobile with me when I go to New Zealand as apparently my UK mobile is compatable with the NZ pay-as-you-go sim cards. I was wondering if anyone knows which network has the best coverage?

Thank you!

Remember that all your calls, whether local or international, will be charged at steep international rates. Texting, though, remains cheap.

Generally people say Telecom has the best coverage (e.g. out on the coast). That said, most of the time you'll be fine with Vodaphone but I'm not sure about what they're like in the remote areas of the South Island.

By the way, as long as you buy a prepay card when you arrive, you won't pay any roaming international tolls. Haven't looked at prices in a while but it used to be $40 for a sim card which included $40 worth of calls. Check out www.dse.co.nz which probably sells cards, phones etc. Otherwise vodaphone and telecom probably have it on their websites.
