Dear all

I am getting sick and tired of the paranoia and the way media deal with tropical and exotic deseases such as SARS or avian influenza.
So please do yourself a favour a get totally objective info about int'l health issues. you'll find updates, precautions to take, data on each country where there is a potential danger.
WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION:

Have safe trips my friends and don't forget that Life is a lethal sexually transmitted desease !!! So make the most out of it !!!!!!!!!!!!

This highlights the power of the written word, and just shows how the media can influence people.

SARS had a much bigger impact on the travel industry in europe than 9/11 and barely anyone was affected in europe.

The whole bird flu is a big media hike, after mad cow disease was found in the US, the media turned on SEAsia to take the economic pressure off the USA. Bird Flu is no new sickness either, its been around since 1992 I believe.

But we mustn't totally ignore these things, I'm sure the families of those lost by these sicknesses aren't writing them off as "nothing".
Forewarned and forearmed and being sensible are the best ways to travel.

who said that we should ignore these things????
But honestly, getting properly informed and taking the measures in accordance, with a bit of common sense too, should be enough to travel even to remote places.

And yes life has a risk factor and yes people die and yes people cry and no I am not staying in my armchair in front of discovery channel because 10 people, through out the world, got infected with avian flu.
Please, Pam not you skymate !!!! x x x x x

Go Fred Go!

I ate eggs almost everyday while in Viet Nam this past February and I've yet to keel over 8-). Unless you're rolling around with chicken or ducks (not recommended), I'd not worry too much. The only way you'll be served chicken right now is to hunt one down and kill it yourself. So IF you come down with avian influenza, as a traveler, you're either:

1. very talented... you hunt down the poultry yourself and prefer eating it medium rare
2. very stupid... chillin' on a chicken farms is your idea of a good time
2. very stupid (2) you dig hanging out in the ICU/Infectious disease wards of hospitals housing Avian influenza patients
3. all of the above

Cheers,
Te
