| Santa Cruz | Wine tour in Santa Cruz Posted: Thu March 4, 2004 01:04 PM UTC
Hi, I am a Canadian living in Chile with my husband and two children for the past four years and loving it. Can't beat the weather especially up north in Antofagasta and beyond.
My husband and I are planning a trip to Santiago in May and thought we might take a wine tour. Friends suggested Santa Cruz as a great place for this. Is May an okay month to go or should we just hang out around Santiago and find something else to do? |

There are many vineyards in Region 5 and several are within easy distance of Santiago. If you drive to Valpariso (about 2 hours depending on traffic) you will see them on both sides of the road and they are often open for business! Your motives for going to a winery are important though as it depends on whether you want to make high value icon wine purchases (in which case you must select a specific vineyard) or just superior or premium purchases in which case almost any yard will do. Once you have decided on this crucially important point try a tour operator in Santiago and allow at least a day for the visit or several if going outside central region.
