I am going to grenada in April but want to go over to Tobago to see a friend for the day possibly over night, how can I get there as cheaply as possible??

it all depends on where you're coming from. some airline actually have a stop over in tobago before going on to grenada especially if you're coming from the UK. some airline like excel you might beable to get off the plane and have a walk around. if not coming from UK or your flight does not have a stop over in tobago on your arrival or return, it is best you book a flight from grenada to tobago when you are actually in grenada. it will cost about 100us return for the ticket. depends on the length of time you will book the flight for. might be cheaper if you're staying for only 3-4 days in tobago.
please note if you do have your ticket from your point of origin, changed to stop specifically in tobago for a day or so, then go on to grenada for the rest of your holiday it will cost you a lot more compared to booking a 1,3,4 day ticket whilst in grenada.
