I don't have time to visit both Franz Joseph and Fox Glaciers. I would like to do a heli-hike of one. Which one would be best for this type of activity?

I asked the same kind of questions when I was there last year. Most locals I talked to said that if you are hiking up from the bottom, then the Franz Josef is the better hike. (easier to reach the ice falls and pinnacle areas of the glacier)
However, if you are hitching a ride up on a helicopter, it probably doesnt much matter which glacier you pick, the helicopter will set you down close to the interesting areas to see.... Have fun....

Oh and it'll be a long time before Franz Josef melts away, don't panic!
