Barrow is sort of stuck out on a limb, an industrial type of town. From what I have seen of it housing would not be expensive.
The town has seen better days when it was home to a thriving shipbuilding industry but when I visited (to see Barrow v Kettering) the beer was good and the people were very friendly. Quite close to the Lake District too, alway a bonus.
