| Obcina Bohinj | Day trip by bus/on foot - how much can we do? Posted: Tue February 24, 2004 12:58 PM UTC
We're arriving on a bus from Bled and want to take in as much as we can - there's some great tips on here, but as we'll be on foot will we be able to take in much of Triglav Park? and what is the name of the best bus stop to disembark to see the most? Thanks so much!

As far as I'm aware the closest bus stop is at the eastern end of the lake. Unforunately, to see Triglav national park you'd need more time, since it's a reasonable hike just to get up there. Is there no way you can stay overnight...? It's really well worth it. You could stay in one of the mountain huts... I strongly recommend it...! You could spend a day checking out the lake and getting up to the first hut, and then hike from there the next day. Check out my pages for pictures.... it might persuade you.

I think you really need to stay over in the national park if you want to get up very high. That's especially so if you want to climb Triglav itself. I know there is a three day hike from Bohinj that's easier than some. It's described in the Lonely Planet guide to Slovenia. I don't have my copy to hand, but it's an excellent book and I would recommend you buy it if you haven't done so already. Another really easy day walk is the Vrsic Pass from Kranjska Gora, if you're heading up that way.

Hi and Shalom:
Which bus to take will depend on what you plan to hike in Triglav. For sure there are dozens of trails, all marked, of differing levels of difficulty. You can check some of them out on Marko's page (jmarkoos) or on Patrick's page (patje), they also have some good advice on hiking there. Some of the other sites around the area you can find on my pages, Vintegar for instance is a beautiful choice. Have a good time in a beautiful country. Martin
