Hi All,
I am looking for accomodation in Longyearbyen in 2004 july. I've found info on the web about 4 or 5 hotels .
But I don't know that is there in Longyearbyen any place for tents? Or any chance for cheaper lodging in Longyearbyen?

Sleeping in a tent is not really advisable in Svalbard, as Polar-bears are a permanent danger.

Have a look on VT's Svalbard-page, there I found :

seems to be a kind of youth-hostel and a lot cheaper than ordinary hotels there,

and much more expensive, but maybe also interesting to see, what prices you will have to pay for excrusions, meals etc.:

I was lucky to go there many times with a cruiseship, many years ago.

I forgot to mention :
The 2nd link also has a possibility to sleep in a tent, but for a price like a double-room in Venice or Paris...

380 NKR per person is the hut for 8 people ( that is about 55 Euros per person), and I am sure, they will not rent it to less people for this price.

a bed in a big tent is about 110 euros...

When I went to Svalbard last year I lived at a guesthouse. "102" is a cheap and very nice place to stay at....

Of course there is also a campingsite near Longyearbyen (4 km from center), with facilities accessible in summer, price not 80 EURO as someone here suggested, but only NOK 80 per night. In summer, there is no problem to use the road between camping and town without gun. See also www.longyearbyen-camping.com
