Death Valley National Park Death Valley where to stay
Posted: Sat February 14, 2004 01:15 PM UTC
Hi,

we (a group of 12) people are heading to a USA trip in March. Our route goes trough Death Valley and Las Vegas. As our income is pretty low :) we are looking for a place to stay in death valley or somewhere on a route to las vegas.

I was looking about Furnace Creek, however it seems to be too expensive. Are there some really cheap hotels, motels, ... in Fournace Creek ?
(is it possible to take 3 rooms where 4 people would stay in a room ?)

As there are several camping sites in death valley i was hoping i could hear something about them.

I'm interested especially for Fournace Creek, Sunset and Texsas Spring caps, has anyone been there ?

I have also read that snake-nite-kit is recommended, has anyone bought that ?

Thank you in advance,
Gregor

I toured around this area a few years ago and then the Only place to stay was Furnace Creek !! ( apart from a trailer park and we didn't have a trailer !! ) -- we arrived late and in the dark so whan we woke the next morning and we could see why -- Nothing around at all -- Just Desert !!
However the motel did have " Older " rooms and we got one of these a bit cheaper !! that was 3 males travelling together so two in beds and one in a put-up !!
This was about 10 years ago so things might have changed since then
Hope this helps a little
happy travels
Rob

In the park it doesn't seem that you have many options. Stovepipe Wells is around $100 also. A little less costly is the Panamint Springs Resort which is on Highway 190 near the west entrance to the park. Their prices run $65-139 a night. Check here for more info: http://www.deathvalley.com/reserve/reserve.shtml#

You had better book early since the spring is prime time especially for flowers, which there should be many of due to good rains and snow.

I'm not sure about the camping, we've only camped outside of official sites.

Do not buy a snake bite kit; even though still sold snake bite kits are roundly discouraged and are said to do more harm than good! If bit by a rattlesnake get professional medical attention, do not attempt to lance and suck out the venom.

There are two hostels located outside of Death Valley National Park.

The first one in Tecopa is just outside the south end ofthe Natl Park. The tel # 760-852-4580.
The hostel in Tecopa, Ca is an HI-USA member. They are near a wonderful, country maintained (and free), hot spring. email egypt30@hotmail.com.

The other is in Beatty, Nevada, just outside the east side of the park and toward the north. email happyburo@pcweb.net tel 775-553-9130. This is also a Hi-USA member.

I've stayed in each, and they are very clean and the owner/manager are nice people!

Have a great trip!
