Cerveny Kamen Visiting Slovakia

Planning to visit Slovakia- where is Cerveny Kamen located? How far is Prague, Czech Republic and Vienna, Hungary from Bratislava? How expensive are hotels? Are there chain hotels like Holiday Inn? Thanks for any information/tips! Andy

there are two Cerveny Kamens in Slovakia, one is the village near Trencin, some 150km north of Bratislava and the second one is the castle you`re probably thinking of. It`s some 40km north of Bratislava, above Casta village (pronounce Tschasta: ).
Bratislava - Prague: 330km
Bratislava - Vienna: 70km
(btw, vienna is in austria, not in hungary)
hotels: slovak standard price is cca. 600SKK per double room per night, bratislava is a bit more expansive. No chain of hotels is available.

Marekg- thanks for your reply and the information!

What does cca mean?

600 SKK is about $20 US?

Yes- the castle near Casta is one of my destinations.

Is there a good map site where I can find driving directions within Slovakia?

Have 2 places I want to visit- 92221 Moravany, Czech Republic and Uhersk Brod 68801 Slovakia.

Also Zupa (Zaduska?), Austria Hungary and Shandis, Austria Hungary (or at least way back in the early 1900's). Also Radimov, Slovakia.

Would you recommend flying into Vienna or Prague? Would you recommend renting a car ot using public transportation? Lots of questions- thank you for your input!

Are you a big biker?

Andy

cca = circa = about
Yes, 600SKK=30USD; 1USD = 31-32SKK
Good map site on Slovakia can be http://mapy.atlas.sk, for driving directions (even inside slovakia) I`d use www.viamichelin.com

Seems you are looking for your roots, right?
Zip code 92221 belongs to Moravany nad Vahom in Slovakia, near Piestany; 68801 is Uhersky Brod in the east of CR, not too far from slovak border.
Radimov you can find in Slovakia, near Holic (pronounce holi:tsch), close to czech border.

"zupa zaduska" might mean "zaduska" (or zadusska) region, zupa is a term for region, district or so, or, at least till 1918 regions in slovakia and hungary have been named with that attribute.
there are no villages named zupa or zaduska in slovakia or czech rep.
shandis - I have no idea what this could be. Maybe an old hungarian name for a slovak or czech village.

destination: vienna is closer to bratislava, there are regular and frequent buses and trains (www.cp.sk, type wien instead of vienna). altough, in prague you can take another plane and thus fly directly to bratislava (www.csa.cz or www.skyeurope.com)

hired car or public trans: it`s up to you and your liking. having own car you`re highly movable and comfortable and free of any schedule, altough public trans gives you a unique possiblity of knowing local customs :-)
orientation is the same problem in car and bus: you`re about to take minor roads where the signs are not always perfect - getting lost is not a problem, unlike finding it. being on bus, you may not to know where to get of.... unless you`ll have a knowing guide.

big biker - :-)) I bike for fun and relax, I don`t watch my speed and time and distance... but I like it.... is 1500km in 3 month much?

any other question you have just ask, either here or by mail
