I have heard that there are other cloud forests in C.R. -- any suggestions where to go?

A cloud forest is just a forest that lies right were the clouds pass. It's a bit hard to explain, but as you hike through it you're almost like walking among the clouds. Since Central America lies in a tropical climate this means you'll get wet or humid, and in some cases you can sweat alot. Check out
http://www.virtualtourist.com/m/tt/1b67f/ to see some pics on a hike in Nicaragua. Although not a perm cloud forest in a sence, we did went over some clouds as we climbed the volcano. The top was totally covered by clouds :).

Anyway, to answer the original question... there is a beautiful 2-3 day hike up Chirripo,a peak on the national park with the same name. There is a shelter you can sleep in on the base, a few hours before the peak. It's a worthwhile hike. Check out my Chirripo page for more info:

If you take tours to the Volcanoes you'll pass through cloud forests.

The difference between cloud and rain-forests is the elevation. A cloud forest is higher elevation (it's up amongst the clouds) while a rain-forest could be at sea-level.

But, both are humid so take a good raincoat that keeps you dry.

Yeah, there is about one or two hours worth, maybe more depending on the day in the start of the trek... no cloud forest at the top though :).

Theres a cheap & great place to see Quetzals at a place called Mirador de Quetzal info at Exploringcostarica.com. Mirador is rustic but only $30 a night cabain and food, not a lot of people.

There is also a place south of San Jose called Saverge Mountain Lodge it more upscale than Mirador but also great for Quetzales
