Uh Oh
Posted: Wed February 15, 2012 09:38 PM UTC
Hubby has announced that he is feeling unwell. Achy, shivery and may have a temperature. Naturally, I am giving him a wide berth and washing my hands a lot.

Lack of sympathy or commonsense? What would you do?

Well I would gargle with Sesame oil or 2nd choice sunflower for 20 mins ...do not swallow and take some natural remedies...Propolis drops from my naturopath work wonders

Google up "oil swilling" which we do almost every day anyway.

Sure aspirin etc might be needed.

@Dymphana ...the "stat" makes me wonder if you are a nurse?

Unless he is obviously coughing sneezing or otherwise excreting viral particles, the wide berth and handwashing probably won't make much difference. Vitamin C, zinc and propolis and other fantastical stuff might make you feel better about your chances of remaining uninfected, but will make no difference. If he has a cold, you may or may not catch it. You catch somebody else's cold. One way or another, you will live with it :)

Sue, what I have done for years if I start to get those cold symptoms. I take oscillococcinum. Yes, I had to get the box to know how to spell the word. lol It has worked every time for me. A little bit more money to get what is 6 doses in a box, but less than a doctor and only a little more that other cold remedies, but it works. Oscillococcinum started in Lyon, France and should be available in the United Kingdom. See their website: http://www.oscillo.com/

As for washing your hands, you don't want to overdo it, but the wrists are just as important as the hands being washed. Best wishes for a fast recovery. :-)

Mrs Z usually has the right words: "there's nothing wrong with you"

Perhaps Mr Suet would appreciate a glass of Caledonian gough mixture, followed rapidly by a second?

a lot of times people are already contagious before they have all the symptoms, so you were probably already exposed to it. To avoid getting it, I would drink some high proof liquor , extra vitamines like these Airborn things they have here, and work out a lot. Most of the time this works

Hope he feels better! Dogs get colds to btw

Thanks for the remedies. He is in bed, squeaking for cups of tea and wanting puppy therapy. I am supplying tea, fruit juice, water and hot soup. It's not a cold, he thinks it is a tummy bug, probably picked up from one of his unhealthy students yesterday. I am redoubling my efforts to wash the doorhandles, puter keyboards and mice and also washing my hands. He's already on painkillers for his (mercifully) recovering sciatica, so is having paracetamol/diclofenac. Not a lot more I can do I'm afraid except keep him warm.

Apparently there is a reason why men feel worse. Something to do with they way they are wired.

He cheered up when I took the puppy in to see him with a cup of tea. Hot soup next!

oi, you lot.

We're not all tarrrd with the same brush. Last time I had sick leave for medical purposes was in the 1980s (other than when I broke my wrist, so I treat that as being for surgical purposes, if you follow)

So true Sue. Men are wooses. We are in southern Spain at the moment and both of us have come down with colds. I have given him soup, tea and me - and he still whines - Waalewhiner!
Everyone has suggestions for us, including four fingers of whiskey - hehe!
Actually its time we need as it just has to run its course. Good luck Sue - any extra puppies to send our way.

I don't think it's lack of sympathy at all - it's more like "Great, this is all I need now, to get sick" - and perhaps he did not do due diligence to avoid getting where he is.

Waalewhiner? Perfect, had my laugh for the day!

I figure we live together, I'm going to get sick anyway, and I think it's awful that Wife should have to boil her own kettle for tea or heat up her own soup. So, I just accept it and take care of her.

Wife, on the other hand, leaves me to fend entirely for myself, and sleeps in the guest room for good measure.

@Suet

Thanks Sue, that's the Torygraph off my reading list, then!

Illness is in direct proportion to the amount of sympathy given - I don't get any, so it's not worth being ill

Sympathy and commonsene combined. He knows you are taking care of him, and once he feels better, you can offer more of the sympathy.
I hope he doesn't feel bad. If he has any temperature, wii he feel it strongly or can he do things almost as usual?
I'm dead and gone with the slightest temperature, as is my mother. My nephew doesn't feel anything,
regards to you and hubby,
Soili

There is a formula called "The Wellness formula" by a company called source Naturals. Get the tablets. they are big...and smell BAD (!)but they flood your immune system with Vit C Eccinachia (sp) goldenseal...a whole bunch of things...you take 3 every 3 hours till you start to feel better and they are awesome! Best thing is they start right away to disperse the fog that is in your head when you have 'flu-ey" symptoms. You have to go to a good health food store for them....Akins, whole foods or pplaces like that...
They cost approx $11 for a bottle of 30 (I think) but they are sooo worth it.

He's fine today! shredding fallen trees in the garden between showers and interfering with my attempts to clean the house. Making endless cups of tea and leaving his tools all over the house. Everything is back to normal!!!
