Either, Barcelona or Real Madrid, no doubt about it!

Hmmm...for some reason I doubt Real, but I could see Barca focusing on this since they are so far out of the league in Spain now.
Munich might be a contender as well...

It all depends on whan Real and Barça meet: If Barça is out, Real will win, if not, Barça.
Yes, you're right, Barcelona will focus on Championship, at the same time, Real has a comfortable distance (10 points), enough to relax a bit.

Very torn here - because Barcelona is my grandson's favorite - but I love Real Madrid! I do think Barca could pull thru.
BTW - my grandson made the NorCal select team and went on to make Region IV All Star - woo hooo!

although, that said, I'm a big fan of the football played by both teams. I do think that Real under Mourinho though is a bit negative and more fouling than necessary...just based on the classico games and copa del rey game.

Re: Champions league Posted: Wed February 15, 2012 06:47 PM UTC
I would first of all like to get the old knock out system back so that everyone could get knocked out from round 1 instead of playing endless and pointless group games that were only created to earn the tv money.
I think they are playing too many games and it affects the players negativly and it´s silly in my opinion.
But for this year i would not be suprised if Bayern won it.
The final will be in Munich and that will give them a big advantage if they make it that far.

Not sure I agree with you there Claus. with this way you are more certain to get the really good teams on the last rounds like in the WC
That said, I think Barca will make it again ;-)

I am not a gambling man but I wouldn't bet against Barca, I think they just have so much individual talent.

But Daarth:
the wonderful thing about football is that everyone can beat the big guys on a good day, but i champions league that hardly ever matters cause they will give them a second chance all the time until the final and there is just some charm lost then in my humble opnion.

So as an American just very vaguely familiar with football does the proportion of money spent on players usually equal the greater number of victories for each team?

Re: Champions league Posted: Thu February 16, 2012 09:40 PM UTC
In the end yes, but almost any team can beat the best on a good day in football and that is why i like knock out tournaments and not all this group stage crap where they can squeeze through even if they mess up.

Re: Champions league Posted: Thu February 16, 2012 09:54 PM UTC
So explain to me how group stage works. Is it like the World Cup (which I do follow a little) where there are a number of groups and the top 2 from each group survive to the round of 16.

Yes pretty much.
But then in the round of 16 you have both home and away games so you have less suprises, but more tv money.

Bayern are looking good on the match I watched (re-run) yesterday. Robben is in excellent form but I always did rate him.
