Help with Florence 1 day itinerary
Posted: Wed February 15, 2012 12:51 PM UTC
Hi
I am going to have a free day in Florence. I started to look for things to see and do, but the amount of possible activities here on VT is just overwhelming. I would appreciate a little help from you building my itinerary.

Using Google I found a one day trip that looks promising: http://www.tripomatic.com/trip/Florence-Rome/
I think this captures the main sights well. But it is still very focused on history. I'm sure there's more to Florence apart from the rich history. I'm looking for a little bit of excitement, maybe a good restaurant or bar? And what about shopping opportunities? I read there are a plenty, but rather expensive. Would you recommend something where I wouldn't spend a fortune?
Thanks

I don't know if you consider it exciting, but I do recommend you to go.

If you are in Florence for just one day you will find all that you may reach and what you have asked for, walking around down town. Then you'll have all the shops you want, all the nice and cosy restaurants you want, the Cathedral and the Ponte Vecchio (the Old Bridge).

Hi, You don't specify, when you mention that you will have a free day in Florence, is this after having visited Florence for say, 3 day minimum (which is highly suggested) or, is the one day the only day you will be in Florence?

The sights mentioned in the tour you can easily do on your own sans the actual entering the Uffizi and the Academia. You can perhaps do the Academia if I had to choose one.
Easier done as it is smaller.
I would however pre-book those tickets on line.
You can then walk (easy) to the various other points with much shopping and trattorias and coffee shops strewn throughout the city.
You won't have a problem finding places to eat.
Florence however is not cheap as to shopping/dining unless you really get away from the tourist hot spots. Searching these out may take a big chunk out of your day.
Enjoy Florence - it was one of our favorite cities in Italy.

If you go home after your day in Florence and you have not seen any of the art. You will kick yourself.
They got it....and it is awesome.

Hello,

I think that the monuments and sightseeing suggested into the itinerary you found are some of the mustsees of Florence. I would like to add two other point of interests, such as Pitti Palace together with the Boboli Gardens and Santo Spirito Church, my favorite church in Florence, preserving great masterpieces.

I also would like to suggest you a couple of places where to eat or taste some good food or a coffee. The first one is Cantinetta da Verrazzano, a nice bakery where you can taste good schiacciata together with excellent wine. It is located in via dei Tavolini (between Palazzo Vecchio and the Duomo). Then go taking a coffee or a tea at the coffee bar of the Oblate Library, in via dell'Oriuolo, where you can have the best Duomo's view.

Regarding shopping it depends what are you looking for. The city center is full of shops, libraries, bars and restaurants, as well as good pasticcerias and ice cream shop. Ah don't forget to take the ice-cream at Carapina, via Lambertesca.

Hope you'll enjoy Florence!
