Copyright of pictures? Posted: Wed February 15, 2012 02:17 AM UTC
I am going to be giving a presentation on Carcassonne to my speech classmates on March 19. I visited Carcassonne myself but was unable to take any pictures. I believe your website has numerous well taken photos and would like permission to use them as visual aids for my speech. Do you have any more pictures of Carcassonne?
Thank you for your time and help,
Theresa

It would be up to the individual. You can contact me on my VT e mail. Karl

Each member owns their own photos. Do a search on Carcassonne and find something that suits your purpose. Then VT mail the person who took the photo and ask permission. Most will be willing to help but there are some professional photographers here who will not allow you to copy their photos. Please ask since these are all privately owned photos.
I understand your dilemma; my camera broke in Carcassonne once many years ago. Fortunately I had been there before and have returned several times. It's a fascinating castle.
If you are new here, type Carcassonne into the VT Search Window above. Click on photos (or look at travel pages). When you find a photo you like, click on the VT member's name to go to their Home Page. Under their photo click on Message to write and ask permission. You will have better luck if you use VT mail and don't expect anyone to reply to an outside e-mail address because many of us have blocked our outside e-mail addresses.

Hi
Copyrights are relevant (they apply as soon as the photos is taken) but most countries have an exemption for educational use.
For this exemption to apply in most cases you need to credit the author in your presentation (one liner is fine or right at teh back of your presentation a list of all authors).
Some countries will also ask you to get the consent of the copyright owner for the exemption to apply.
That's the theory. In practice, if you use the photos just as visual aid once in a speech to classmates, use the pictures & credit the authors and you should be fine. Do not share/forward the presentation or save it somewhere that can be accessed by the public and you are in control of distibution & stay of teh safe side of the exemption.

I don't mind you using my photos of Carcassonne if there are any you want, OTHER than those which have myself and husband in them; feel free to write me.
