Has anyone been to the Phuket Zoo? I really want to see animals in Thailand (tigers particularly) and we will be in Phuket for a while!

Phuket Zoo is a disgrace, the animals are looked after very well. Please do not go there.

Regards

John

I agree with John entirely on this ...sorry...

The animals are treated disgracefully and the place was not designed with the habitat of animals in mind...only viewing purposes...please dont go and perpetuate the animals suffering ...please boycott the place and they will be forced to try to re-home or sell thier animals to better places...or even send the poor souls to thier eternal rest...anything is better than that pitiful existance.

Use this site well to find other wonderfull options of things to do there

Also have to agree with all the above posts. Elephants playing football, so bad.

Give it a miss.

Now that in itself would be allright if the Elephants were allowed the balls all the time for enrichment..unfortunately this is not the case

The best place I found to see tigers in Thailand was Tiger temple in the Kanchanaburi Provence although this is a long way from where you will be. The tigers are treated with respect and looked after by monks. There are plenty of other animals running around free which is amazing. You will have to sign a disclaimer before you enter the reserve as they are wild animals and can be unpredictable.

I was there for a day and it really was incredible.

I saw a BBC documentary once with the monks and thier tigers...I cried at just how devoted they were to them...

That sounds like the same place in Kanchanaburi. Do you remember the title of the Documentary by any chance?

For me the Zoo was ok, the place is small and the animals all looked ok. I have been to bigger and better Zoo's around the world and i have been to this one about 5 times now and each time i go back the place improves just a little bit and as for elephants playing scoccer well they do that all over the world its called entertianment and the elephants seem to enjoy it as well as the many children that watch but go for your self and make your own opinion of the place.
