Rome hotels--Trevi Fountain.
Posted: Tue February 14, 2012 03:07 AM UTC
On our last night in Italy, I'm thinking of splurging on a superior room at the Hotel Fontana Rome, directly across from the Trevi Fountain. My mind is set on this hotel to catch a different perspective of the fountain with my camera (from above & also at night. I've already got an amazing photo of it without any tourists in it that I took at 6am in 2007). However, I need to make sure this hotel (and the fountain) is not undergoing renovations. We're staying in April 2012--has anyone been around that area recently to confirm if all is well there? Also, I heard that sometimes they drain the fountain--how often does that happen?? I emailed the hotel some time ago, but got no response. Thanks!

At the moment the fountain is full working and I haven't heard of plans to drain it.
Few days ago it was amazing under snow and ice, such an uncommon sight!

We were there last month and the fountain is fully working.
First day we went there it was CROWDED, you couldn't even see the fountain with so many people milling around.
I went back the next morning around 7:00am and I had the fountain all to myself.

We didn't stay around the fountain area but rather on Via de Cavour, within walking distance to the Colisseum, Paletine Hill, Roman Forum and Termini station.
I personally didn't think there was very much to do around the Trevi area - other than the fountain and, within walking distance, Plaza di Spagna.
Are you sure you want to splurge just to see the fountain when you can just as easily do so by traveling there early?

Totally need to be there. It is a splurge, and one I won't do again but for 1 night it's a must-do. Can anyone recall if the hotel facing the fountain (Hotel Fonatana Rome) was blocked by either scaffolding or some sort of billboard? That's what one person said there was when they stayed there in September 2011 (tripadvisor) and it ruined the view. Just wanted to know if there will be any blockages of our $325 view....
