So glad found this website!

hey fellow travellers!

I am a single girl travelling to Dharamsala in May, and would like to have advice on the most safest, hassle free, cheapishhhhh, & scenic way of travelling from delhi aiport direct to Dharamsala.(not asking for much!!!) I am tempted to get a private taxi, is it safe travelling alone? How much will the fare cost one way? Or is anyone travelling in early may,& want to share a taxi cab with me?

Would love to hook up with anyone and much rather travel with a pal, then be the bewildered lonesome stranger!!

1. Unless you have booked a private taxi and a driver beforehand, may be difficult to get a taxi direct from IGIA to Dharamshala. The reason is toll tax along the way (whenever a commercial vehicle crosses a state boundary, a tax is levied by the next state for usage of the road. (Bureaucratic, frustrating, but it's there). Unless, the commercial vehicle has an 'All India Permit'.

2. Alternatively, you could go to the Interstate Bus Terminal (ISBT) in North Delhi and hop on to a bus. Frequent buses would be available.

3. Better still would be to go to the Old Delhi Railway Station (not to be confused with the New Delhi Railway Station) and get yourself a train ticket to Pathankot. From there, plenty of surface transport vehicles available for Dharamshala.

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my message. The information was useful. I am hoping that I will find someone to share the journey from Delhi to Dharamsala, in a stress free way, so lets hope someone is going there as well!

If you go to Pharaganji area of Delhi, other wise known as the Main Bazaar which goes up the road from New Delhi Railway station you will find many backpackers hanging out in this area many of them take the tourist bus to Dharamsala and McCloud Ganji or Manali. It is an overnight journey but you will be safe on a bus full of tourists. I belive the bus leaves in the afternoon everyday.

Right! I have now sorted out the journet. I will take a flight to Dharamshala. It`s quick, not too costly and saves all this effort of hanging around!

I will be in india May-July. Where do you reccommend that i Travel from June- July?
I really want to see the taj! It`s my first time in india, equally, I am aware it will be scorching hot in june-july, so shalli just stay i the hills, and continue visiting shimla, kasmir etc......

Well i found on first trip to India I was travelling the full length of the country and was in Leh in Ladakh between the months of June and July and was a very good time to go. I did the Martha trek but got lost in bad weather but it was a god send when I got out of my tent the next morning and was over looking many mountain layers and saw my campsite well below me, but it was fantastic experince getting lost, in the end the locals pointed me in the right direction after being sick with Delhi Belly for a few days but it became a huge experince for me and never will forget.

June/July is a good time to go but be aware of heavy rain it may effect your plain of getting out of the area, weather by road or plane.

May is the start of the trekking season Manali. so is a very good time to go.
