Trip to Rio for Carnival

I am a French student and I want to leave for the Rio carnival. I would like some information on the event. I like to know where to go. Parades should not be missed. I'd also wanted to know what are the customs of life in Brazil.
I hope someone can help me.

Your post is from feb 7th. Well carnival already starded. About a month before the exact weekend of carnival you will have so much going on especially street block going all over Rio. Here is a site that gives you dates and hours these blocks starts, they don’t stay still they go dancing al over the neighborhood :
