Hello, I am traveling to Malaysia for the first time, at the end February beginning of March, this is my first trip there and I have a few questions about Malaysia.

1. Is it safe to travel there as a single African American woman?
2. What location in Malaysia would you recommend to stay?
3. What hotel would you recommend that are clean, safe, reputable and not so expensive?
4. Where or what foods do you recommend?
5. Is safe to go to any night clubs or bars for cocktails?
6. Is it safe to video or take picture in public?
7. How do I go about booking taxi for pick up from train station?
8. What are some must see places to visit while in Malaysia?
9. Where should you change over your money and are there ATM's accessible. I understand the ATM's system in Malaysia use a 6 digits pin, so how do I go about using them since we in US use a 4 digit pin system to withdraw money?
10. Can you hire a tour guide?
11. How is the weather around this time of year and is this a good time to travel to Malaysia?

1: Malaysia is a very developed and safe country to travel for anyone.

2: Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Penang and Camerom highlands are some very nice places.

3: That i will leave to others to answer.

4: Malaysia is a fantastic food destination because it has so many ethnic groups with different kitchens.
Very hard to recommend anything in particular, but you should have a feast there for little money.

5: Absolutely safe. Malaysian nightlife is often a little classy and alcoholic drinks are not cheap there, but the scene tends to be very pleasant with next to none of the sleeze you often see in the neighbouting countries.

6: Yes itīs safe.
Because Malaysia is so ethnicly diverse you are probaply better off asking permission before taking photos of people cause their reaction to that can vary.

7: Malaysian taxis are generally all over the place and quite cheap, but agree on a fare before you get in.

8: Will skip that one as i could write a whole novel about things to see there.

9: No itīs 4 digits if your pin is 4 digits.
The machine might have the option for putting in 6 digits, but just put in 4 and press enter and you will be fine.
I have taken money from ATMīs in Malaysia using 4 digits at least a 100 times.

10: Probaply yes, but i do not know where.

11: February should be a good time of year to travel, but be ware that Kuala Lumpur tends to get a bit of rain on most afternoons.

#2. Kuala Lumpur would be inevitable as you will be most likely flying into the capital. But I would recommend you move on as the first thing you arrive in KL and leave the city at the tail end of the trip. Genting Highland is a popular day-escape from the city but we preferred Cameron Highlands which atleast requires 3-4 days and definitely worth it. I would chose one from the duo of Melaka and Penang. For island I will go to Langkawi. So its makes 4 places for me for which I would allocate 2 weeks. There are many other places to see in Malaysia also if one has more time..

We visited KL for 5 days Nov 2012, you should have at least 3 days there. We also took day trip to Malaka, very historic, if you have the time you could have an overnight stay in Malaka.

We also visited a Hill Station (Frasers Hill) known as Butik Fraser, approx 100km from KL, cool country.
