Walking around Jerez

Hi we are visiting Jerez early May before the Feria and wondered if there was any good walking around this area within easy reach.
If not how easy would it be to get to the Grazalema region.

How will you be travelling? We drove from Jerez via Grazalema ( stopping in the Arcos de la Frontera and in Grazalema village) on our way to Ronda. It is about 50 miles along a good road with some very picturesque scenery.
It is possibly on a bus route - try alsa.es and I will look to see if I can find a better Link.

I read your question too quickly and assumed that you specifically wanted to go to the Grazalema Park area.

You could also consider Parque Nacional de Doñana north of Jerez and on the coast

All the Atlantic coast between Cadiz and Tarifa has wonderful beaches of white sand. By that time you could even find a nice sunny day abd enjoy the beach. If not, the beaches and some nice villages (Conil, Vejer, Tarifa) make it an interesting visit. From Jerez to the coast it's about 60 kilometres, and I think there are buses with a local company calles COMES.

There is no direct road to visit Doñana, but you can go to SANLUCAR DE BARRAMEDA (at the mouth of Guadalquivir river) and there you can find organised daytrips to visit the park.

We were hoping to do some walking in and around Jerez as we are moving on 5 days later to Jimena de la Frontera via train.
We were hoping there were some local trails around Jerez.

...with an English option. I see there is no mention of 'senderismo' here, and Jerez is obviously on the plain down near to El Puerto and Cadiz, whereas what you seek is more likely in the hills (like Jimena).

I would e-mail the contact on the website for Jerez.

It seems you wont be hiring a car (much, much easier) but if you can get up toward Grazalema it will be well worth it. We came in from the north (La Puebla de Cazalla) last summer and travelled through the sierra from Zahara de la Sierra to Grazalema - fantastic scenery, great walking and a key place in history - I'm sure you would love it. In Grazalema there is a great restaurant through the village at the 'bottom', overlooking a sort of car park over a steep gorge.

Jimena is about as Spanish as it comes (like much of the white towns) and the tourist info on line is pretty non-existent. However the contact details for the tourist office at the town hall seem to be:

I would e-mail them, someone should speak English if you cant speak Spanish. At the very least visit the office as soon as you arrive in Jimena, or I also note there is an info point for Sierra Magina Natural Park in the castle. They will have all your walking maps etc.
