Help please for best area to stay
Posted: Sat January 28, 2012 01:38 PM UTC
Hi, we will be in Langkawi at the begining of April 2012 for the final lap of our tour of s.e asia.
We have alreday bookd flights to Langkawi and will be staying for 6 nights.
Which is the best area to stay.
We want to be close to the beaches (does Kuah have any access to beaches) and want to enjoy plenty of life at night itme, ie bars and restaurants but not necessary clubs.
We are undecided between Kuah and Pentai Cenang.
Any recomendations for mid range hotels.
we are really open to any suggestions of alternative areas in Langkawi.
Many thanks

Hello Poepat,
Welcome to Malaysia,
Pantai Cenang and Pantai Tengah suit to your plan as many mid range hotels, some budget motels and night spots are here. Kuah is mainly government offices and business complexs where shoppers go for duty free products. The jetty for ferry to Kuala Kedah, Kuala Perlis or Penang is in Kuah too. As you have 6 days, pick 1 or 2 days to rent a car to go for your round island trip. If you love snorkeling, find a tour agent in Pantai Cenang to arrange for it. Not to miss is take the cable car to go up to Gunung Mat Cincang to enjoy the windy cool temperature up hill.

Given your preferences I would not even consider staying in Kuah Town. As mentioned above, the best place for you to stay is Pantai Cenang or Pantai Tengah.

You can also consider Burau Bay Resort. It has plenty of life at night time with a beach restaurant with life music! It is on one of the most beautiful and uncrowded beaches in LGK! I don't know how good the sunset will be early April or if it will start raining that early in LGK but probably not till May..

Cenang and Tengah have become overcrowded imho but you can certainly take a taxi to check them out. If you do, do check out Bon Ton which is a haven of restored Malaysian houses of yesteryear! And if you want a truly Malaysian experience, check out Foxhill (I have it on my LGK page)!

Pekan Kuah is far from the beach.
Pantai Cenang is nearer to the beach.

@shud - Pantai Cenang (Cenang Beach) is a beach, sayang! ;-)

@OP - I just read recently how bad the situation can be on Cenang, with beach boys using it as their expressway on 4WDs! :(

Therefore, again, suggest Burau Bay or maybe you can check out Pantai Kok, adjoining it?

Re: Mid-range - can you define what kinda prices you mean? :-)

Hi, if you want to be close to the beaches..you should stay at Chenang or Tengah while Kuah has no beach. There are many resorts and chalets (from no star to 5 star) at Chenang and Tengah, it's all depend on your budget. Chenang and Tengah is very popular now days especially during Malaysian school holidays, during this time it's seem to be over crowded with local tourists. However, it is very convenience if you stay at this area. Many shops, restaurants, bars, internet cafes(some hotel and chalet provide free WiFi), water sports etc...Other beach resort you can consider are Danna Resort at Pantai Kok, Mutiata Burau Bay Resort and Berjaya Resort at Burau Bay, Andaman Resort and Datai Resort at Datai Bay and Four Season and Tanjung Rhu Resort at Tanjung Rhu. As I said earlier, it's all depend on your budget as these resort are between 4 to 5 star resort. Cheers...
