I am travelling for work to Sao Paulo beginning of March. I have a few girlfriends joining me at the tail end of my trip for a lil girls getaway. We will be staying for 5 days and 4 nights and want to travel to Rio as well in that time. I was thinking a vacation rental may be a good idea - so we dont have to lug our bags everywhere.
Anyone have any recommendations on areas/rentals that would be a safe places for us to stay. We would like to be accessible to restaurants and bars...but primarily want to be in a safe neighborhood.
Also - what do you recommend for travel to Rio - plane, bus or train?
There is no train connection between Rio and -Sao Paulo, but the 2 cities are served very well by both bus and Plane.
And long distance busses in Brazil are very comfortable, but of course they take longer than flying.
Both options are perfectly fine though.

I would suggest spending most of that time in Rio, even having your friends meet you there, to get a more thorough experience of the city. Sao Paulo does have restaurants and clubs, but IMO Rio has all that AND is much more exciting and beautiful. International airfare is likely to be about the same to either destination. In Rio, stay in Copacabana, Arpoador or Ipanema. Not sure if you can find an apartment to rent for only 4 nights, but Rio has plenty of good hotels.
