Anybody heard of DRD bus from Venice to Ljubljana ?

Just read about this company on the Fodor travel forum. Apparently theyrun a direct bus service between Venice and Ljubljana.

Anybody heard of them or used this service ?

We took the DRD bus from Venice to Ljubljana. They're parked right in front of our hotel. (Hotel Plaza Maestre). Fare is €25.00/pax and total travel time is around 4 hours.

They usually leave before noon.

Thank you John. You should definitely write a tip about this as so few people are aware of it.

In the forum I read last night and when I subsequently googled more info, some people mentioned difficulties like having your luggage put on a different bus and actually identifying ( at Mestre) who was a real DRD employee and who wasn't. Tyere were also suggestions that the buses are driven recklessy at high speeds and that the journey only tales two and a half hours.

What was your experience of the trip ?

Hi Katherine. We see DRD vehicles parked in front of Hotel Plaza Maestre every time we step out of the hotel in the morning and when we return in the evening.

On the morning of our departure to Ljubljana, I simply left notes on all the parked DRD vehicles' windshields to contact the hotel's front desk. We were reached at around 1030am by one of the drivers who told us that the trip takes only about 2 hours when in fact, it took close to 4 hours. Our vehicle departed around 1120 am.

From the vehicle we rode, we were driven to a bus within the city. They helped us transfer the luggage on to the bus, so there's no problem in that department. They made 1 stop to pick up more passengers then another for toilet and snack break (around 10 mins), then we proceeded on to the final destination. Fares were collected when we were within Ljubljana territory already.

I guess it depends on the driver's driving habit. Ours drove too slowly we thought that the bus was horse-driven. He was a careful driver though and he got us to Ljub safely, so we were satisfied.

If you haven't been to Ljubljana, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Btw, we took the Venice-> Ljub trip barely a month ago, so it was fairly recent.

On another note, how do I post a tip on Ljublana page? I think all my attempts simply ended up in my own homepage.

Again, thanks for this very helpful information John.

To upload your tip you must make a page on Ljubljana. If the location is entered on your travel map then clicking on it should invite you to make a page. Just click and the template will come up. Then look at the categories and put your tip in the transportation category, with a title such as 'Direct bus from Venice to Ljubljana'.

There must be so amny others who will find your info as helpful as I'm finding it.
