MONTREAL - FORT-LAUDERDALE FLIGHT?
Posted: Tue January 24, 2012 03:36 AM UTC
hi,
a friend kindly invited me to come and visit her in FORT LAUDERDALE. i live in MONTREAL, QUEBEC. what is the best (and cheapest!) way to fly there?
a friend of mine suggested i fly out of VERMONT (burlington?). i can drive there, no problem, if that is the best option.
also, i cannot go until JUNE 22nd at the earliest because of my work (i am self-employed), and the latest i could go would be the LAST WEEK OF AUGUST. anytime in between is fine by me if that can get me a cheap flight!
also, i can leave any day of the week i want. and i would like to stay a MINIMUM of 7 days, maybe 14 days (if my friend will have me over that long!!!).
p.s. when is the OFF-SEASON?
thanks.
suzanne

p.s. would it better to fly to MIAMI and then go to FORT LAUDERDALE (by bus, car, cab)?

p.s. my friend lives very close to the airport, 2 minutes from the beach.

You can check the Westjet website and also the Air Canada website for flights and prices. Here are a couple of prices for Westjet.

22Jun departure 1145, base fare $259.00 one way
23Jun departure 0745, base fare $259.00 one way

you are in offseason.
fort lauderdale airport is a lot easier on all counts to deal with than miami, try and get into fll if you are able.
by going down to burlington, you would most likely be using jet blue with a transfer at jfk. jet blue does not fly to miami. many flights each day to fll and west palm beach. for a so-called discount airline, jet blue is not cheap.

Best cheapest way would be via Burlington Vt. as you asked about. There are flights round trip for $271 from Burlington to Ft Lauderdale during the month of July on United Airlines. I did not check June or August but if you want to, use the search at KAYAK. Many people from the Montreal area come to Burlington for their flights. There is long term parking available but not free so you need to check on parking cost. Also, you could go from Plattsburgh NY to Ft Lauderdale on Spirit Airlines for a similar price. But watch out for their add on fees. And Spirit does not go every day so you would have to search KAYAK to find a schedule that fits your needs. Plattsburgh has one advantage because long term parking is free. If it were me doing that route I would go from Burlington. But I have a place to park. KAYAK allows you to look at all the airlines serving a particular route(With a couple of exceptions) for the best price and schedule. When you find something of interest then go directly to the Airline website and book. I have lived in Vermont over 40 years and use Burlington often. It also might be worth while taking a bus from Montreal to Burlington and then a Taxi from The Burlington bus stop out to the airport. It is possible to walk as I estimate the distance to be about 3 1/2 to 4 miles. It is a straight walk up the Hill from downtown out Rt 2 across I-89 and left on Airport parkway. There are sidewalks all the way. Depends on how fit you are and bus schedules. There is the municipal bus system that goes to the airport, but I don't know the schedules from downtown.

plattsburgh

allegiant only flies that route two times a week, but with good flight times.

spirit flies three times a week, leaving plattsburgh at like 2 in the morning, and return gets in at one in the morning.

But if one looks up the Allegiant flight prices for July, you will find them over $700 RT. When one considers the flight departure times on Spirit, United/Continental has the better flight times and prices. The only hang up is the Parking at Burlington. BTW, the free parking at Plattsburg is over. It is now $3 to $5 per day. Burlington daily parking is about $12 a day, but they may have a weekly rate. Don't know as I have my own place to park. Bus from Montreal on Greyhound is less than 3 hours and costs about $24 one way. From downtown to airport is as I explained. You might want to look up Municipal bus schedule before deciding on Taxi. Taxi should not be that much. Burlington is not a very heavy traffic City and taxi should not take more than 10 minutes. Bottom line is the route through Burlington and South on United is the best option in my opinion.

Transat' price is over $600 in July. Most all Airlines out of Montreal to Ft Lauderdale are over $600 at this time of year. That is why Plattsburgh and Burlington are so popular with people from Montreal area.

Everyone in Canada knows you never buy Transat at retail, they are a charter carrier and are not subject to the same factors of airlines.
Transat usually drops prices to $99+tax for this route at non busy times.
However, if the poster wants to buy now, the NY and VT options are the best
