Where to go for Coffee in Austria?
Posted: Mon January 16, 2012 02:46 AM UTC
Hi, I am going to attend the SCAE World of Coffee Vienna, 2012 in June.

Besides the fair, where do you recommend me to go in search of good coffee experience?

What are the "must-go" places for a coffee lover?

Thanks.

I agree about Hotel Sacher !

1) a good place to taste Viennese coffee is at AIDA, a chain of confectionary shops all over Vienna, 1 of them is in a building in Kärntnerstrasse, opposite of the cathedral and the Haashaus. They also have excellent cakes in small portions.
2) K&K Hofzuckerbäcker DEMEL, in Kohlmarkt, opposite of the Hofburg
3) Cafe Central in Herrengasse, great coffee, excellent cakes + oldstyled interior !

I second globetrott's recommendation of DEMEL on Kohlmarkt.

And I second Café Central :-)

To be honest, I don't like coffee, but the interior of that café is just so beautiful! There is also live piano music (at least there was when I was there a few years ago), the atmosphere is just wonderful.

And I second Demel :-) For coffee and cake AND window delights :-)

@Globetrott: is Demel still decorating the window to the right of the entrance with marvellous artistic cake creations?

Obviously, I can't contradict globetrott (he showed me some places), but I'd humbly add Cafe Mozart, literally, round the corner from Sacher

Yes, Cafe Mozart is a good place as well and I did not mention it here because it is not much different from Hotel Sacher in the same building and even same ownership !
@ trekki: yes, Demel is still decorating the windows with giant sculptures made of chocolat and sugar, according to currant festivities and events in Vienna.
and when you walk inside Demel you can watch them creating these works of art !
