If you liked Cerveceria Catalana... you'll be in heaven in Madrid! There is not a real tradition of 'tapeo' in Barcelona, while its a essential part of Madrid's culture. In Madrid you'll find something similar (or better) to CC every couple of blocks, and every couple of doors in some areas. Read the excellent tip from Redang above (hola Santi!)

indeed I was going to say what belsaita point out; you will have a lot more choices in Madrid, its deep rooted there.
In fact there is so many good ones its difficult to tell you just one. You should find some in destinations above right and see the tips by posters like us.
My favorites are in my old neighborhood that still go when in town or not with Santi hehehehe(redang). Docamar is a good one, with lots of history of Ciudad Lineal, Quintana near my old place

real Madrid but not in tourist central. with the metro line 5 you get there easily.
Cheers

One of the days you may visit , the Mercado de San Miguel , that is located in Plaza San Miguel , besides the Plaza Mayor
It is an old market that has been transformed in a "tapas market" ,with lot of "tapas" bars , you have a great choice
Besides this, as they told before in that Madrid area you may discover lot of places to have the beer and good "pinchos ". Discover by yourself the bars that you like in the recommended areas ( . Do not hesitate and go inside the bar see what they are offering and then decide to try or to change to another bar
Buen viaje

Re: tapas in Madrid Posted: Tue January 24, 2012 12:22 PM UTC
For the real "tapas" the free ones given with a drink, the best chocices in Madrid center are Parrondo, Mareas Vivas and Los Amigos, wich are in the Calle Trujillo and the adjacent street, Just south from Callao metro station.
Mercado the San Miguel, is fancy and cool but way overpriced. So is ok for one and see the place.

There are not many places to sit in San Miguel .. You take the tapas in the different places / bars and you can take them to an area where there are tables and seats or to eat in the same place where you get the tapas and the drinks
If you go early you will not find so many people
Enjoy Madrid !!!!
Buen viaje !!!!

Am I the only one here who does not like the Mercado de San Miguel?
(just curious, maybe I had too high expectations, but I found the place really disappointing, and very expensive for so-so products)

San Miguel Market place is very nice but very expensive. You can go there at the end to get a good dessert & cofee.
In Cava Baja Street you will find the best places to have tapas, and go walking to San Miguel.
I recommend you to get a plan and spend just 20 € by person and try 5 different tapas with 2 beers or two wines.

Try the ones around the Plaza Santa Ana area. Remember the objective is to go from place to place and not linger too long. I prefer to stand or sit at the bar rather than being served by the waitstaff.
There's a small place primarily serving food rather than being a bar, forgot the name, along the interior courtyard of Plaza Mayor where I've had bocadillo de calamares.
Had a few drinks at Los Gabrieles - they have wonderful ceramic tile murals.
I've seen La Zapateria mentioned in some travel shows on Madrid...
For late night / early morning munchies there's also churros con chocolate at the Chocolateria San Gines.
