Accommodation cancelled - please help
Posted: Tue January 3, 2012 06:57 PM UTC
My cousin and I are due to arrive in Amsterdam on the 16th April till the 22nd April 2012. We had booked and paid for an apartment in Almere for a week thru a company that is based in the Netherlands. However, the owners cancelled on us today and the booking agent has offered us a refund or an addional $50 if we book through them again. Firstly, we finalised this booking more than 2 months ago and now that the time is getting closer the prices have increased. We dont want to stay where it is noisy as we are both in our 60's, but we would like the convienience of shopping, transport etc. being close by. We have no preference as to were we stay, as long as it's got 2 bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and so on. Also, we would require bedding (sheets etc) towels and all the normal 'stuff' to be supplied. They also offered 2 bikes that were included in the cost. We cannot afford more than Euro's 75 per night. Can anyone help with advise and perhaps with suggestions as we are both very dissapointed as this apartment was really lovely. :-(

Thanks
Sandy

75 per night is low, but there still are accommodations offered in that price range.

See: http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/europe/netherlands

Do you have any preference were to stay? (convienience of shopping and transportation closeby will fit for 80% of all Dutch towns and villages).

I have links to Dutch B&B too, but in general that's more expensive; see:

Can the booking agent not offer you alternative and/or equivalent accommodation? Have you explained to the booking agent that even with the $50 additional compensation you cannot afford any of their accommodation on their books? I gather you would prefer to be outside of Amsterdam? I wonder if, somewhere in the small print, there is a clause about cancellation by owners? Did you not pay a deposit?

Thanks for your reply. We had actually paid in full, but like I said they offered us an addioanl $50 if we book through them again. I have been on the net since lunch time today (South African time) and have not been able to find anything close to the lovely place we had booked. Never mind. with all the wonderful suggestions that are coming through, I have faith that we will find something just as special.

Thanks so much for the info. E75 was the reason we booked so long ago. Dont know Holland at all so we dont really mind where we stay as long as its pretty cental as we have hired a car and dont want to travel from one end of Holland to the other every day. We were aiming at parking then cycling around the larger cities.

Will spend sometime tomorrow again on the sites that have been suggested.

Thanks everyone.

The more information I get, the better chance I stand of finding something special

Regards
