Re: Is Pattaya safe and secure for tourist visiting alone. Posted: Sat December 24, 2011 04:10 PM UTC
Millions of tourists do visit Pattaya every year. It is one of the top 5 destinations for tourists to visit. Many tourists travel there alone and in family groups. Unless you do something stupid you could be safer than where you come from!
If you wander around the city, especially Beach Road, really late at night, drunk as a skunk - you could be robbed. If you walk around with pounds of gold hanging from your neck even some fast moving tourist might run off with it! You are more likely to be rolled or robbed by someone who you invite into your hotel room than hotel staff. But this is about the same worldwide.
When will you be in Pattaya? Right now is high season. Some of the 500 baht hotels are now higher priced but not that much higher. Off season no problem getting a hotel room in the 500 baht to 700 baht range. Be prepared to pay a little more, especially if you are only going for a couple days.
My advice is to get a hotel in the Pattaya City area. This way you can walk to nightlife, malls, travel agencies for tours, street vendors or be able to use cheap 10 baht baht bus rides.
Map of Pattaya City below. Get a hotel near Pattaya Sai Song (Second Road) so you can walk to many things.

Here is a few links for hotels in the 600 baht range.
Apex Hotel: http://www.apexhotelpattaya.com/
Ice Inn: http://www.iceinnpattaya.com/content.html
Captain's Bar and Hotel: http://captainsbar.com/1.htm
(The above 3 places are either on Pattaya Sai Song or on Soi Honey Inn. Easy walk to many things including cheap restaurants. Apex is on the map. Ice Inn is only a few places down from the Apex. Captain's Bar is on Soi Honey inn, look for Bay Breeze on map.)
There are some places without air condition that are cheaper but during high season they can fill up. For longer stays you get better prices.
I have come across little old ladies traveling in Pattaya alone.
Don't skip Bangkok if you have never been there before.
Happy New Year.
