Is Pattaya safe and secure for tourist visiting alone.
Posted: Sat December 24, 2011 02:22 PM UTC
Brother,
Please guide me.
Iam planning a one week trip to pattaya alone. Iam a 28 years old guy.
My trip plans:
(1) Take a flight to Bangkok.
(2) Take a visa on arrival.
(3) Go to pattaya by bus.
(4) My question is can I book a hotel directly once I reach pattaya or I should book it before. Is it easy to get a cheap hotel once I reach pattaya. My budget is 500 BAHT per day.
(5) My another concern is regarding safety. Do Pattaya is safe and secure as, iam going alone. Iam finding really confusing . As some of my friends are suggesting me to not go alone.

Allow me to thank you in advance for your consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.

Millions of tourists do visit Pattaya every year. It is one of the top 5 destinations for tourists to visit. Many tourists travel there alone and in family groups. Unless you do something stupid you could be safer than where you come from!

If you wander around the city, especially Beach Road, really late at night, drunk as a skunk - you could be robbed. If you walk around with pounds of gold hanging from your neck even some fast moving tourist might run off with it! You are more likely to be rolled or robbed by someone who you invite into your hotel room than hotel staff. But this is about the same worldwide.

When will you be in Pattaya? Right now is high season. Some of the 500 baht hotels are now higher priced but not that much higher. Off season no problem getting a hotel room in the 500 baht to 700 baht range. Be prepared to pay a little more, especially if you are only going for a couple days.

My advice is to get a hotel in the Pattaya City area. This way you can walk to nightlife, malls, travel agencies for tours, street vendors or be able to use cheap 10 baht baht bus rides.

Map of Pattaya City below. Get a hotel near Pattaya Sai Song (Second Road) so you can walk to many things.

Here is a few links for hotels in the 600 baht range.

Apex Hotel: http://www.apexhotelpattaya.com/

Ice Inn: http://www.iceinnpattaya.com/content.html

Captain's Bar and Hotel: http://captainsbar.com/1.htm

(The above 3 places are either on Pattaya Sai Song or on Soi Honey Inn. Easy walk to many things including cheap restaurants. Apex is on the map. Ice Inn is only a few places down from the Apex. Captain's Bar is on Soi Honey inn, look for Bay Breeze on map.)

There are some places without air condition that are cheaper but during high season they can fill up. For longer stays you get better prices.

I have come across little old ladies traveling in Pattaya alone.

Don't skip Bangkok if you have never been there before.

Happy New Year.

Sir Halberd has provided good advice. I've visited Pattaya (and other places)each year for the past 6. I have friends who live there but I spend most my time on my own. I always keep my passport, credit card and cash in a safety box (whether in room or at reception). I only go out with enough cash to cover my expenses for that outing. I don't get drunk, mouth off, insult the king or any Thai person. I have never had a problem. I act friendly to everyone, always smile even if something irritates me.

There is a wealth of info on the internet about Pattaya. I don't recommend swimming at Pattaya ( I never had, couldn't pay me to do so). Recommend taking the ferry over to Koh Larn and spending the day there to swim, lay back and think what the rest of the world is doing lol.

there is no need of internet booking to get a room in Pattaya. however in the tourist season that is from November to February it is best to book before you arrive at the Pattaya. you may find difficult to get room even if you get one they will charge you high rate at this season

What month of the year will you be in Pattaya?

If it is only two or three nights plan on a room around 600 baht. Longer stays you can negotiate a little bit in some places.

Ice Inn. Fan rooms.

Sawasdee Hotel. Fan rooms.

Apex Hotel.

Captain's Bar and Hotel.

One cheaper fan only room on Soi Honey Inn is the New Star across from the Intown Holiday hotel. And the Jom House on Sai Song (not far from Tim Bar which is near Avenue Mall.) You would have to show up in person.

In this area you can walk to malls, street vendors, Seven Eleven type stores, nightlife and use cheap 10 baht baht bus rides on Sai Song or Beach Road.
