From Recife to Olinda
Posted: Mon December 19, 2011 04:24 PM UTC
Hello all,

I am glad to find this forum!
Can one go from Recife to Olinda by taxi? If so, how much (approximately) is it? How long does it take?
Also, was the exchange currency a simple process? Where did you find the best current rate?

Thanks for any suggestions and insights!

From where in Recife is it?
Itīs quite a big city.
If itīs from the airport then it will take around half an hour.
Not sure about the fare as i normally stay in Recife myself.
And for money i would advice you to bring either a VISA or MASTERCARD.
They are both very common in brazil and itīs easy to find ATMīs to draw money from.

In looking at your question and thinking about my experience I saw this posting on VT by another user;

"To go from Recife to Olinda- #910 Heading Picdade/Rio Doce from downtown Recife or Boa Viagem, it will stop on Av. Sigismundo Goncalves in front of Placa do Carmo." Fare is about $ 2.80 US.

I would be very curious to know how they are coming about restoring some of the old buildings in Recife. It used to be an old city in need of a lot of cleanup.

The old part of Recife has been restoed very nicely in recent years and the old part of town is now a quite hip area with good nightlife.
Very very different from when i was first in Recife in 1992.
the city has really had a nice makeover the past decade and is becoming a very nice place to live.
