I am taking my wife to Krakow for 4 days in late November. Were really looking forward to absorbing the atmosphere and cultural sites. Any tips and advice on where to eat and drink and typical prices would be great. Thanks in advance guys

hi we stayed at the Royal just near Wawel castle - there was a bar and food there which seemed decently priced - the main square will be a little dearer - but not overly priced IMHO - we did the Camp tour but if I were to go again we would go on the train and take our time ( the tour bit was very rushed - then we just walked around Krakow the see what we could -

Enjoy

Have you tried visiting the Krakow travel guide here in VT?

http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Europe/Poland/Wojewodztwo_Malopolskie/Krakow-490219/TravelGuide-Krakow.html

You'd see here tips including things to Do and where to dine in Krakow.

In Your Pocket has an online and print guide to Krakow, I found that it had great information and as mentioned above there is a travel guide here, there was a big VT meeting in Krakow in 2010 so there should be a lot of information on here

The 2 daytrips that most people take with a limited amount of time in Krakow are the salt mines and Auschwitz, both are easy to get to on your own.

For Polish food I really enjoyed U Babci Maliny, there are multiple locations throughout town, this was the location I liked best

For a fairly comprehensive selection of eateries, including street eats, visit my page - http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/9d51c/77aeb/2/

And for night life - http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/9d51c/77aeb/5/

Obviously these are my personal opinions but the price guides are accurate and they'll give you an idea of the variety on offer.

Krakow is a lovely city, with a vast amount to see and explore. As Dabs notes, the two major 'trips out' are Auschwitz and the salt mine, but the city itself holds more than enough for 4 days.

Make sure you allow plenty of time to explore Kazimierz, the Jewish ghetto area during the war. It is undergoing substantial restoration nd is a fascinating, and deeply evocative, place.

I like the Georgian 'fast food' restaurants:

Do make sure you try several varieties of flavoured vodka. Cherry vodka accompanying a coffee is exceptionally warming on a chilly day! :-)
