Hotel recommendations

We are interested in staying in central Bern over the New Years. 3 stars or higher and within walking distance to trains. We have scanned many of the hotels in the area, and are just looking for any recommendations or experiences you may have. We would like to stay at 200 USD or less nightly. Regards!

In October I was planning to travel to Bern. I never went however I researched a lot of hotels in Bern. The one I found to meet all my needs was the relatively new Holiday Inn on the Westside in Bern. I know it's a Holiday Inn was my first reaction!

I did have a fellow WHO employee give me his thoughts that stayed in the hotel for two nights. He thought it was great. Clean, polite staff, good price and location.

However the things that made me decide on it were; 1)the great reviews, 2)his personal recommendation, 3) the train is right outside of the door of the hotel and about 5-10 min from central Beern, 4) the Toberlone factory I think and several good eating places are within walking distance.

Check the trip advisor reviews on this place for additional information. They rate it #2 out of 35 hotels in Bern.

I haven't skied Switzerland but my son has who is an outstanding snowboarder and skier. He suggests something that is close by would be Murren. Limited in slopes but the views are out of this world.
