McLeod Ganj Vaccines for McLeod Gang
Posted: Sun February 8, 2004 03:41 AM UTC
Hello,

I'm travelling to McLeod Ganj on 12 March with my 3 yr old daughter. Does anybody know what vaccines are vital for this region? Not just precautionary, but vital.

I'd also greatly appreciate any recommendations for good accommodation (not too pricy) around there and just outside...eg. Bhagsu, Dharamkot.

Thanks.

Hi,

YOU don't need any vacinations for this region as this is the pollution free and it will not be that hot like new delhi.

Accomodation in McLodge Ganj will be the best option as that is the best place to stay with family member.... as green view of beautiful view all around..

- Rahul.

You can mail me or call me once u will be in new delhi if u want?

Hi, leaving this post to your question a little late - but I can suggest a couple of places to stay in McLeod. My friend and I were absolutely swamped by hotel touts when we got out of the tourist vehicle and we went to a restaurant with all the business cards and then went out unemcumbered by bags to check out places.

We stayed at the HimQueen Annexe - it was Rs 200 for a clean double with 24hour hot (geyser) water and a private bathroom (40 channel Tv too it that's your thing...). Basically from the bus stand you wank past the main chorten (one either of the two paths) and then up the small rise at the end of the road - this will then take you past a few expensive places - Surya Resort etc. (Its listen under HimQueen in LP) Its is closer to the Dalai Lama's temple complex than the nex one I will suggest if that is a big factor in your decision making.

Another nice one but a little out of the way (its down quite a few steps off from the post office) was the Sharma Guesthouse. Run by a really friendly Kashmiri guy they have some wonderful rooms that are just drenched in sunlight for most of the day and are spotlessly clean. You can elso eat at the resturant there and look up at the snowy peaks behind!! They were about Rs 150.

Note - we travelled in the low season (when His Holiness was out of town) these prices could double or triple at the time when the Dalai Lama gives his teachings...but these are some good starting places.

Have fun, you really will ove this place!
