Can anybody tell me how much time it takes to get from Belize International Airport to Belize Municipal Airport? Also, how much time it takes to get from Belize International Airport to the Water Taxis in Belize City? My flight gets in around 4pm and I'm wondering if I have enough time to catch the last water taxi to Caye Caulker at 5:00 (17:00) after collecting my bags and going through customs, or will I need to arrange to fly over there from International or Municipal. I understand that if you fly out of Municipal, it's half the price....
Thanks in advance... |

Here is the ferry schedule:
http://www.geocities.com/belize_nijssen/caulker.html I don't recall customs taking very long at all. I don't check my bag, so I don't know how long that will take there. I suspect that you will be cutting it close. The difference between Placencia and BZE vs the muni airport is $11 US. It looks like it is $20 more for Caulker.. A cab into town from the Int airport was $17.50 US when I was there last. You might just want to bite the bullet and fly from there. See the websites. Tropic Air's is easier to use. http://www.mayaairways.com/ www.tropicair.com/ Have a great trip!

Mea culpa. This is a far more accurate schedule:

This one sort of depends on how many people are on your flight. I'd recommend the flight to Caye Caulker as you don't really need to go to the municipal. The reason I'd say fly is that it gets dark fairly early this time of year and you definitely don"t want to spend a night in Belize City unless you absolutely gotta. Caye Caulker and the other small towns are relatively safe, but Belize City is dangerous. Be sure and try the ceviche.

Ha! I had the exact same problem....my flight (from Houston) got in at 4pm. I spent the night in Belize City. I stayed at the Seaside Guest House. It is cheap and clean.
I then went to Caye Caulker in the morning. It wasn't that bad spending one night in Belize City. - Rachel

I went ten years ago so I don't know how accurate my response will be. I remember going through customs in a matter of minutes. The "Belize International Airport" is tiny. And it didn't take very long at all to get to San Pedro by air. Getting on the plane was quick and it only took about twenty minutes to get to the island. If you go to Caye Caulker, don't plan on an air-conditioned place to stay. San Pedro is nice if you stay away from the center of town and check out one of the hotels off the beaten path- they had bicycles to travel the mile or less distance into town. I remember that it was very easy to go back and forth between Belize City, San Pedro, and Caye Caulker.
I did spend a day in Belize City walking around with a resident who told me he was an extra in a Coppola film years ago and it was more money than he had ever seen- $25.00 bucks a day. We walked through neighborhoods, past the scary prison, past churches, etc. Talk about untouristy... it was one of the more interesting parts of my trip. Anyway, have a good time.

Hi everybody...well, I went and I'm back now and thought I'd share my experience so it may help others in the future....
My flight got in at 4:05pm from Houston and we had plenty of time to make the 5:30 water taxi. No problem at all...Just take your bags out to where the main taxi commander is, tell him you need a taxi to Caye Caulker and he will get a taxi for you. The taxi fare is $20 US, not counting tip for the driver. This is a standard fare. If you are a large group, you can get a van taxi for $5 per person, for a group of 4 or more, I believe. Once you get to the water taxi terminal, buy a round trip ticket (open end) to get the best deal.

Man, forget Caye Caulker. I just came back from that place. I was ripped off, my friends were ripped off, and when we reported it to the police they said "if you don't like it then go home." I found the people there to be violent and not very friendly.

Questioning Havenit's comments to forget Caye Caulker because he was ripped off and his friends were ripped off. What do you mean ripped off? Could you be more specific? We already have reservations for hotel in April. Thanks.
