7 hour stopover in Singapore
Posted: Fri September 30, 2011 07:14 PM UTC
Hey all. I've travelling to Phuket soon, and on the way back have about 7 hours in transit in Singapore. I'm also changing air carriers. I have 2 questions if anyone can help.

1. Can you check your luggage in around 7 hours early with Malaysian Airlines ?
2. I've heard that you can get a free shuttle trip into the city and back to kill some time.

I've been in the airport in transit a few times, but have never been into the city. I'd love to have a look during my transit time.

Many thanks all.

Simon

Can't help you with number 1, but number 2 is easier.

There is a bus shuttle that takes you to the city and back again. It's a two hour tour and you choose between a Colonial Tour or a Cultural Tour.
The buses are leaving at 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm and 4pm, and the tour is two hours long.
You sign up for the free trip at one of the "Free Singapore Tour booth" that you'll find at either Terminal 2 or 3.

For mer info, check here:

Sounds like a great idea to check out Singapore. It's a fantastic city!

Hello there!

I am not sure about the checking in of luggage with Malaysia Airlines. Pertaining to your 2nd question, I have managed to find this website http://www.changiairport.com/getting-around/to-and-from-the-airport

It does seem like there will be free shuttle bus. However, the shuttle bus doesn't stop right in the city centre. If you are taking it, do take the one heading to Toa Payoh MRT station and from there, take the metro (aka MRT) red line, heading towards Marina Bay. Get off at City Hall Station and you will be within walking distance from most sites (eg Merlion, Marina Bay Sands building) in Singapore.

If you have difficulty finding the shuttle bus stop on ur way back to the airport, you can also take the MRT to the terminal. It will be around 40-45 mins from the city centre. I always find it more reassuring to be relying on public transport rather than shuttle services when overseas.

7 hours is quite sufficient to see the essence of Singapore. So do make good use of your time! ;)

#1 I believe nope
but why MAS in Singapore from Phuket? AFAIK all MAS's flights from Singapore are going to Malaysia.
did you know there are direct flights, twice a day, from Phuket to Kuala Lumpur? and it's not very expensive.
Anyway, about luggage, if you had only one ticket it could be surely possible.
on other case... it's not a rule but it could happen, once I managed to check-in my luggage in KLIA to Amsterdam via Singapore, first flight was MAS second one was KLM, two different tickets, they did it.
#2 that day we could send directly our luggage, we had spare time and we've gone by MRT, all trafic jam avoided.

go to the tourist booth and tell them your in transit and want to see the city and they will direct you to the shuttle. as for the lugguage, go to the kept baggage locker and leave it there unless you can get the airlines to transferr the lugguage through to your final destination.

It sounds like you are traveling by one of the budget airlines from Phuket to Sin and then catching MH via KUL back to Oz.
There are left luggage facilities which are cheap enough. just one fee for up to 24 hours.
Unless you are flying Business Class, the luggage can only be checked in 2-3 hours before.
Depending upon the airline you are coming into Singapore, you may have to change terminals, it is a little bit longer from Budget Terminal to Terminals 1 etc.
The tour is good if your time schedule can fit into it.
Good Luck
