Where do the locals shop?
Posted: Wed September 28, 2011 08:24 AM UTC
Hi everyone,

Good day!

Just wondering where do the locals shop for stuff like bedlinen, towels, shoes and clothing?
Quality stuff at a good price...

What would you consider to be the best buy in London? :)

Thanks all!

Smiles, Francesca

Whereabouts in London?

Off-hand I would suggest John Lewis, who have branches in several different areas, for bed linen and towels. Ditto Marks & Spencer.

Shoes and clothing? Depends on what you are interested in......

Although no technically a local, I bought bed linen at Ikea and towels at Marks and Spencer during the recent summer sales. All good quality and excellent prices.

This is obviously based on personal preference but for good clothing bargains I like to check out Zara and Next.

The best buy in London is anything that is 80% off. The bargains are there. You just have to search for them.

It depends on what you want.

Chainstores like John Lewis, Debenhams & Marks & Spencer are not especially cheap but their goods tend to be good quality for the price. Ikea is also good but does not do clothes and shoes.

The Dunelm stores are superb for linens, towels, curtains and so on (quality and price) but none are in central London:

For shoes...well, you're spoilt for choice really. Loads of cheaper chains, more upmarket ones like Clarks (good quality/price ratio but not cheap).

You're even more spoilt for choice with clothes. Debenhams. Marks, John Lewis and suchlike department stores ...or clothes/shoes-only chins such as Dorothy Perkins, New Look, Evans...

Or cheap-and-cheerful fashion from P{rimark on Oxford street...

There really isn't any one store or chain which is 'best', in London or in the UK. There is such a huge amount of choice that entirely depends on your personal preference, your budget and your style....and, to some extent, on your size. For example, Mrks & Spencers trousers do not fit me well simply because I do not have the classic English 'pear-shape' for which they are cut.
