a taxi from the airport to downtown?

Hello everyone, what is the proper price to pay for a taxi from the airport to downtown? And what else should I be aware of when it comes to taxis ?

Hanoi Airport is the wrong place to get a cab unless you like being scammed. If you must take a cab here, make sure it's Mai Linh. A better way is to have your hotel meet your flight - averaging $15. but more with a luxury hotel.

The scam referred to is the driver takes you to a different hotel than the one you booked, with all sorts of plausible reasons - "that one just closed down" or something like that. Or it could even be to an inferior hotel with the same name. This is on top of usual taxi scams jacking up the fare.

Hotel pick-up is best.

Unless you are wedded to the idea of taking a taxi I would go with the bus which you pick up in front of the terminal and is only US$2.

It is 350,000 dong from the airport to the lake. Ask the taxi driver to quote you in Dong not in dollars. There will be a long line of official airport taxi's as you come out of the airport. You will see a sign.
