Camping Gear
Posted: Sat September 3, 2011 02:25 PM UTC
Hello All

I am planning to go to the Samien National Park. I am not intending to hire a cook. From the gear part, i have camping gas grill ( a small one which can be put inside a pocket) but i would have to buy compressed gas.
The question is as follows. Is there somewhere in Gondar a camping shop where i would be able to buy it. It's not the only equipment i would like to purchase.

Would be very grateful for any help.

Thank you all in advance.
Max.

Hi Maksik,
I am afraid I have no good news for you !
There are not of “outdoor shops” in Gondar, and, the only gas bottles you can buy there are the big cylinders.
The thing you can do: as hiring a guide is compulsory, you probably will pass through Debark to enlist at the Park office, and at that office they can guide you to a shop renting camping equipment. I did a trek last year, without cook, but hired a mule and some camping stuff; the stove worked with petrol, I had to buy there.
So it is not too difficult to find things in Debark, but no “camping gaz” or alike things.
Have a nice trip.
P.S. I have a page about the Simien here on VT, I should finish one day. . . .

You won't find it there, may be in Addis. But why don't you try an ordinary charcoal or wood fire? Succes guaranteed!
Good luck
