| Gaspé | Ferry? Posted: Tue February 3, 2004 11:50 PM UTC
I'm planning a summer trip to Quebec for 2004. I live in New Jersey, but I would like to detour through Boston on the way home. Driving, unfortunately, is not an option. While I was looking at ways to get from North East Quebec through NB into Maine, I saw a reference to a ferry going from the Gaspe penninsula to Dalhousie, NB.
Has anyone ever taken this ferry? Does it still run in the summer? (I've looked online, but found nothing current.) Any information or alternate suggestions for getting from Gaspe to Boston would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jen PS-- I know this leg of the trip will probably take a few days, so I'm also open to suggestions on where to take overnight breaks. |

Hello fellow Jerseyite. The Gaspe Peninsula is a relatively isolated part of Quebec. You may want to look at cruises that go up and down the St. Lawrence River. I believe they exist, but don't know any details. Such trips may originate in Boston. The areas that are most scenic on the Gaspe Peninsula are in the Perce and Gaspe areas. For more information, I have a Gaspe page here on VT. As for ferries in the area, they pretty much cater towards getting people from a town on the Quebec side to a town on the New Brunswick side.

How about by train? If you can get to Montreal, there is a train that leaves around 8:00 PM and arrives the following morning in Gaspesie.
If this doesn't work, I've heard that Riviere du Loup is a nice area (if you need to take a stopover here)
