One Full Day in Ljubjana?
Posted: Thu August 25, 2011 01:53 PM UTC
Hello all,

I'll visit Ljubljana in October with my friend, we will arrive late at night 10pm and will have the next day to enjoy it there and we will leave in the morning of the 3rd day. So we only have one day to enjoy there.

Can you please advice me what to do and what is a must? a brief plan for this day will be great and appreciated.
and for the castle, what exactly to see and visit there?

And do I need to buy the ljubljana card?? its 23 euros for one day, what do u think?

Thank you all for your help.

Have a stroll in the town center and along the river Ljubljanica. Do a boat trip on the river if you are in the mood. Spend some time at the market There is covered too.

About the castle; you can enjoy a nice landscape from there and visit the small church. There is a cafe and the toilets inside.

The Ljubljana card is useful if you're going to visit various museums I suppose.

I wouldn't bother with the card until you've checked what it covers. Like all such European city cards it's only really worthwhile if you intend to use all or most of the free/discounted entrances.

Ljubljana centre is small enough to explore on foot: it really is very tiny. So you don't need to bother about public transport. The station is about 10 minutes walk from the absolute centre.

Spend your time wandering the riverside and enjoying the architecture, shops and cafes (excellent Slovenian food especially the coffee, cakes and beer!). As Maurizio says, if the market is on explore it and take the funicular up to the castle for excellent views.

If you are interested in Roman remains then Ljubljana does have a (very) few, detailed in my tip:

Do have a look at the Vt Ljubljana pages for other tips on specific things to see and do.

There should be a tourist train to the castle too. At least there was years ago.
