| Bali | Are there any villa-style hotels in Bali that are raised on stilts over the ocean ? Posted: Fri August 5, 2011 06:41 AM UTC
Thinking of making a trip to Bali, but girlfriend wants one of those Maldives-style resort villas which are raised on stilts over the ocean. Where can I find such a style of resort in Bali ? What hotel, and where ?
Appreciate your advice. Thanks! |

I have heard that there is a law in Bali that no-one can build over water (not really sure why) but check out watergardenhotel.com---sort of close with terraces over koi ponds-----

Suggest Maldives, then? ;-) But go to Bali for Bali - GF and you will have no regrets! Look at my Bali page - not on stills/not luxurious but a taste of the real Bali! Good luck! BTW there are more romantic accommodation in Bali, with your own pool, that you and GF might love to experience? Instead of same old, same old? ;-)

I don't think so. Bali being a surfers' paradise, I don't think it is nice to have big waves hitting the villas if they are raised on stilts.
Bali is a fabulous place. Many tourists go there again and again and again and never get bored of the place. And there are so many options. You can opt of stay next to the beach or in the nice hilly areas by the terraced padi fields in Ubud. There are stilt resorts in Malaysia (2hrs from Bali) though - Avillion Resort (Port Dickson) and Golden Palm Resort (Sepang).

You wouldn't want to go to either from Bali because the beaches/water on these parts of the Straits of Melaka are not ideal (polluted from all the shipping transiting thru one of the busiest straits in the world!) and the beaches in Sepang are muddy except for the bits sanded by the resort). These locations are OK if you are a KL resident.. For a weekend getaway. So, if you are in KL, you would find the Avillion water chalets really romantic (with open roofed 'Malay' style showers) but if you can afford it, there is the Pangkor Laut resort (which was opened with Pavaroti on the guest list) for MY and the Tanjung Jara in Trengganu!
