Copenhagen to Malmo Day Trip
Posted: Wed August 3, 2011 10:12 PM UTC
I'm planning on being in Copenhagen the first week of September and was thinking about taking a day trip to Malmo. Does anybody have any recommendations of what places are a must see in Malmo?

I wonder how Västra Hamnen or City of Tomorrow project is going. I would like to return to see how much it has developed since visiting a number of years ago.
I see that the old dockyards and industrial area of Malmo now has a curvy
sky scraper !

Västra hamnen, is well worth seeing, if you are interested in seeing new architecture and great open views.

If you`re interested in history, I`ll recomend Malmöhus Museer, located in the old fortress. A walk among the small houses between Malmöhus museer and Stororget is well worth the time (particulary in nice weather). Malmö also prides itself with having large and well kept parks. If you have some time do take a strall in one or more of them.

The town hall is also worth a short visit, as is St. Johns church.

You can see some of them on my Malmö page (I live there as does Jon who has already replied). I would say Västra Hamnen has developed a lot in later years and now has not only the Turning Torso but a lot of interesting housing developments and sea views (if the weather is nice we all gather out there for a walk and an ice cream/coffee).

Lilla Torg is a nice and lively old square in the city centre, full of restaurants, but perhaps not that exciting if you are based in Denmark (then it's more exciting to Stockholmers since the architecture is quite Danish).

If you like art, the Konsthallen art hall as well as the Malmö annex to the Swedish museum for Contemporary Art (Moderna Museet - not yet a tip on my page since it opened fairly recently in Malmö) are very nice.

The old castle is not that exciting as far as European castles go, but still worth seeing if history is your thing and as already said, it has some info on Malmö history as well as other exhibitions for the city museum.

A nice thing I tend to do with visitors is to go for a boat tour around the city canals. Tours leave from the Central station and go around all the nice parks. You can buy coffee and cakes in a basket to bring for the ride.
