You'll make the quickest time and have less traffic on Florida's Turnpike. It is a straight shot although you will have tolls. It is about a 3 1/2 hour drive.
You can additionally take I-95 straight down but it will be more congested depending on time of day.
It can back up and be bumper to bumper in places such as West Palm, Pembroke Pines and Ft Lauderdale with the morning and evening rush hour traffic.
Where in Ft. Lauderdale will you be staying?

There are shops and restaurants etc in downtown Ft. Lauderdale, and there are of course beaches, but you may have many of those on your cruise. See if your hotel in Ft. L has a shuttle to the ship and and if so, you can turn the car in at the airport and get a shuttle back to the hotel and then take the shuttle to the ship the next morning.

For the day following the cruise - if you have the energy for it, you might want to rent a car and drive over to Shark Valley in the Everglades. Or take an airboat ride somewhere closer to Ft. Lauderdale

Stay at the FLL Doubletree Galleria and take the water taxi along the intercoastal and find a place for nice dinner and ride it back. Our cruise had a post cruise tour that took you to the Everglades for a few hours and then to the airport, but if you have another day post cruise that probably won't work for you. If you need transport to the cruise terminal I recommend Jewel Limo. We had to go all the way to Miami for ours and there were 12 of us. Jewell sent a party van for us and they were great, on time, friendly, etc. I would use them again in a minute.
